Biography

• He was born in Derbassia, a city of the Syrian Island, in 1953. He completed an BA in Arabic Literature from Aleppo University, 1978; Diploma in Teaching Education, 1993; he taught the Arabic Language and Literature in high schools in Hassaka and Aleppo. In 1994, he came to the US to study Theology and Biblical Languages at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where he obtained MA in 1999.
• Saad wrote decent poetry in both Syriac and Arabic languages. Many of his poems were published in the Patriarchal Magazine, as well as in various literary periodicals. Recently, he published good numbers of his writings in the Facebook and YouTube.
• His Holiness Mar Ignatius Zaka Iwaz conferred upon him a title “Creative Poet,” in the year 1984.
• In 1970, he met the Great writer, Michael Naaima, who told Saad, “Saad, you will become a Great Poet.”
• He preside the editorial board of Karmo Journal for Syriac Literature in Chicago. Five issues were released between 1998-2000. He published the following books:
• معجم الشرق الأوسط - [Middle East Dictionary.] Beirut: Dar al-Jeel, 1998. In an alphabetical order of entries, the books introduces the historical, political, and literary values of the Middle East, filling the gaps of similar studies by including the values of the Middle Eastern
• الارومة السريانية للهجة الماردينية [The Syriac Origin of the Mardini Dialect. Damascus: 2011. It provides a linguistic study for the presumably Arabic dialect of Mardin in comparison with Syriac language; it concludes its Syriac origin. It consists of 370 pages.
• الكتابُالمقدس:ُالعهدُالجديد [The Holy Bible: the New Testament, Translation into Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Arabic of Mardin] (Turkey: United Bible Societies, 2012). This is the first Arabic translation ever to the Modern Spoken Arabic of the Northern region of the Levantine. Along with it, it provides a translation into Standard Arabic based on the Syriac version for the first time ever. It consists of 800 pages. It is also published online by: www.scriptureearth.org
• الكتابُالمقدس:ُالعهدُ القديم [The Holy Bible: the Old Testament, Translation into Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Arabic of Mardin] (in Press). This is the first Arabic translation ever to the Modern Spoken Arabic of the Northern region of the Levantine.
